Drum Course Course in Florence, Italy

The drum lessons are designed for all levels of knowledge and drum playing abilities. The drum course is done individually, so that the teacher can focus on what needs to be practiced and cared for, for each student individually. The teacher will carry out the lessons through specific tasks and exercises and also let the student develop his own musicality, as well as be able to accompany music with a band.

The drum course focuses on the essential techniques used in today's drumming styles. It includes the knowledge necessary to play Rock, Funk, Blues, Jazz and other popular styles.

Each level contains a perfect balance of practical instrumental development and performance skills, including creative application. You will be guided and supported all the way by our experienced and qualified tutors.

Drum Course content

Beginners Drum course:

The student will practice exercises to develop independence between the four limbs;
The student will learn to read general drum notations, and if he is a more advanced student he will learn to read more complex notations;
According to the level of the student he will learn from the basic drum techniques to the more elaborate and advanced techniques;
The student will learn how to setup a drum set;
The student will also learn drum tuning;
The student will work on developing several different rhythms and styles. As well as developing new techniques that will make him a more thorough musician;
Reading studies integrating an introduction to music notation, percussion clef, note/rest values, eighth and sixteenth-note counting systems, understanding of basic reading in 4/4 and the performance of simple snare drum etudes;
Style studies focusing on eighth-note rock grooves, eighth and sixteenth-note fills, 3-way coordination, timekeeping, and the application of grooves and fills to prerecorded music.

Intermediate Drum Course

This level develops deeper the foundations laid in the beginner's course and introduces the following topics:

Reading studies focusing on tied notes, dotted notes/rests, further reading in 4/4, and introduction to 12/8;
Technical studies focusing on the continued development of hand technique including stick control, dynamics, snare drum etudes, single and double stroke rolls;
Style studies focusing on eighth-note grooves in 4/4 and 12/8, sixteenth-note grooves in 4/4, sixteenth-note fills, 3-way and 4-way coordination, application of grooves to prerecorded music.

Advanced Drum Course

At this more advanced level, the ideas introduced and mastered at beginning and advanced, are further developed.
Topics at this level include:

Technical studies focusing on the continued development of hand technique, including further stick control and dynamics, simple compound stickings as well as an introduction to the twenty-six American rudiments;
Reading studies which focus on further sixteenth-note reading in a variety of time signatures, introduction to artificial groupings such as triplets, snare drum etudes and drum chart interpretation;
Style studies which focus on more advanced grooves in 4/4 and 12/8.

Although the Drum Course can be taken alone, other students usually have chosen to combine the Italian language Courses and the Drum Course and that's why we've created the Intensive Music Courses (Italian + Music).
