Oboe Course in Florence, Italy

The Oboe course is designed to help you to start, improve or master your abilities with the Oboe. The course is carried out through private lessons where you will receive full attention of the teacher and reduce considerably the amount of time you will need to learn or perfect your skills. The Oboe Course can be taken at any level of knowledge of Oboe playing, as the classes are completely personalized.

The course can be divided as follows so you can have an idea of what will be studied once the teacher evaluates the best level for you.

Beginner Oboe Course
  • At first you will study the basic notes, and practice them through specific short sequences where you will be able to produce your first tunes;
  • Develop the ability to read simple structures of musical staff;
  • Study and practice the Intervals (the difference in pitch between two notes);
  • Learn the dynamics in every aspect of the execution of a given piece, either stylistic (staccato, legato etc.) or functional (velocity);
  • Develop the use Accidentals; lowering and rising of pitch;
  • Acquaint the student with the Articulations; the direction or performance technique which affects the transition or continuity on single, or between multiple notes or sounds;
  • Acquaint the student with Arpeggios followed by specific practice;
  • Introduce the students to his first set of music scales.


Intermediate Oboe Course
  • Develop a deeper understanding and ability of the chromatic scale; a musical scale with twelve pitches, each a semitone or a half step apart;
  • Enable or perfect the student's rhythm reading;
  • Develop students skill and understanding of the harmonic;
  • Instruction and practice and of the melodic minor (minor scales);
  • Deepen students ability with music scales;
  • Improve and perfect the student's sight reading; the reading and performing of a work;
  • Develop student's ability to read and perform inversions.


Advanced Oboe Course
  • Improve and master the ability to interpret and perform the circle of fifths;
  • Develop or master the use of the 7th chord; a triad plus a note forming an interval of a seventh above the chord's root;
  • Deepen students knowledge of complex time signatures;
  • Develop a greater ability to create musical ornamentations;
  • Improve the ability of changing from one key to another (modulation);
  • Master the technique of progression in order to create a smoother music line.


About the teacher:

Andrea Marchetti graduated at the Luigi Cherubini conservatory under the conduction of G. Patroniti. He continued his musical training doing a specialization course in Chamber Music at the Accademia Chigiana , and in Oboe at the Hochschule Mozarteum in Salzburgo, under the direction of Hansjorg Schellenberger, the first oboe musician from the Berlin Philharmonic. Although the Oboe Course can be taken alone, other students usually have chosen to combine the Italian language Courses and the Oboe Course and that's why we've created the Intensive Music Courses (Italian + Music).
