Florence, Italy - Artists throughout the 70 years of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino - Palazzo Pitti

The exhibition is a celebration of the Seventieth edition of the "Maggio Musicale Fiorentino", the most important Italian Music Festival, through a selection of set designs, models, costume designs and actual costumes that constitute, in the particularity of their scenic form, a high quality chapter in the history of twentieth-century figurative arts.

Since 1933 many artists - painters, sculptors, architects, set designer, costume designers, stylists - have come in contact with the programme of Florence's Festival, therefore giving birth to unforgettable performances within the spheres of opera, ballet, and sometimes, even prose.

Artists who, moving dialectically between the two worlds of the "painted scene" and the "built scene", have contributed, from Florence, to the rebirth of spectacle in Italy and Europe.

Musica in Scena pays tribute to the creativity of these artists, highlighting from the title onwards the unbreakable bond that has inspired the scenic inventions, and emphasized through the highly evocative nature of the exhibits, the height of the results that these artist-scenographers have accomplished in reaching the common dream of "spectacular spectacular".
